The looming era of isolation and internal panic cements itself throughout the fifth album from Southern California’s self-proclaimed ‘home-fi’ indie stalwarts, Sick Balloons. But don’t let that coerce you into believing it’s all dismal thunderstorms and opaque skies.
Recorded at home, mostly during the first half of the covid pandemic, the latest chapter finds our author reflecting on magically isolated cities (Johannesburg) and fictional protagonists (Museum of Mouths), while simultaneously waxing detrimental qualities of air (Strange Pollen), and untimely futures (Rant II).
Drum machines and preordained percussion nestle themselves alongside harmonious guitar and shimmery blankets of orchestral congregation, with additional contributions from members of The Oxen, Belladon, Gift Machine and Trouble in the Wind.
This is not a political record by any means, but rather a snapshot reflection of what brought us here.
"All We Ever Wanted (Was Everything)," is an exacting trip through the looking glass, welcoming the audience opportunity to turn darkness and despair inside out.
1/2 of all digital-only sales will be donated to charity. Past charities have included RAINN, American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide, & the Dede McClure Fund.
